Unhooked

December 19, 2009

As we begin this New Year please keep in mind the chance of the impossible. This will be the chance that what you have dreamed, envisioned, and talked about coming into a reality. Would this be a miracle? Since the name of the blog implies becoming removed or set free it creates a sense of disruptive idealism as you prepare to take on a new frontier. Therefore, let us put the term miracle on the shelf for the time being to elevate basic necessities. To give you a sense of where I’m going a few years back a movie came out called “The Matrix”. The Matrix trilogy started back in 1999 that envisioned a world consisting of humanity fighting a war against machines constantly trying to overpower each other. If humans would cede and overcome at one point the machines would balance its advantage with an even stronger tactic and vice-versa. There were many characters in the trilogy but the one I liked best was Morpheus. Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) told Neo (Keanu Reaves) that “throughout human history, we have been dependent on machines to survive. Fate, it seems, is not without a sense of irony….And I imagine that right now, you're feeling a bit like Alice. Hmm? Tumbling down the rabbit hole (The Matrix, 1999)”. This would mean that although we envision what we want years pass and we are consumed in a manner where we feel helpless in a sphere of want and need. Disconnecting ourselves from The Matrix is the challenge we are trying to overpower in order to see our vision clearer.

Many things in life can discombobulate our ability to reason things out. I am not being illusory but much time is spent inside a vision that cannot possibly happen. Most will agree that they want success, wealth, and respect but at the same time most will agree that everyone cannot possibly have it at the same time. What about the football player who prays that his team wins, but does winning means that the other team wasn’t praying? There is a gap that exists that we must eventually own up to. This gap can be considered the difference of what you have and what you want. How much better must one team play to win over the opposing team can be summed up into hard work, determination, and timing. Then take this football scenario while considering about 6,692,030,277(World Bank, 2008) people wanting it just as bad. According to a book entitled “The World is Flat” the author suggests that “ once the world becomes flattened and the new forms of collaboration made available to more and more people, the winners will be those who learn the habits, process, and skills most quickly” (Friedman, 2006). Will it be based on a miracle? It just that reality transforms our thinking from “get rich or die trying” to a long term competitive approach of working harder and smarter. It will take determination, pressurized resolve, and thoroughness, as prerequisites. In the Matrix, Morpheus implied the question of how deep was the rabbit hole. Well, first consider the fact that it must be large enough for you to get through to the other side. In order to out run the machine(Matrix) you must out run all of the agents, adversaries, and competitors who will stop at nothing to be just as great.

Thank you for reading my blog and let us all become unhooked to see the world as it really is outside your Matrix
